PAT Testing for Construction Sites
Construction sites across Northwest England present some of the most demanding environments for portable electrical equipment. Power tools, 110V transformers, extension leads, and temporary lighting are subject to extreme conditions — dust, moisture, impacts, and heavy daily use. Regular PAT testing is essential for site safety and HSE compliance.
HSE Requirements
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) expects construction companies to maintain all electrical equipment in safe working order. Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, principal contractors must ensure that all electrical equipment on site — including tools brought by subcontractors — is safe to use.
110V and 240V Testing
We test both 110V (reduced voltage) and 240V equipment. Construction sites should be using 110V tools wherever possible, but we regularly find a mix of both voltages on site. We test all types:
- 110V tools: Drills, grinders, circular saws, jigsaws, SDS drills, planers, routers
- 110V equipment: Transformers, extension leads, festoon lighting, portable floodlights
- 240V equipment: Site office computers, kettles, microwaves, heaters, phone chargers
- Battery chargers: Chargers for cordless tool batteries
- Welfare facilities: Kettles, microwaves, fridges, toasters in site cabins
