Microwave ovens are a staple of workplace kitchens. In addition to standard PAT testing, microwaves can be tested for radiation leakage.
What Is Microwave Leakage?
Microwaves heat food by generating electromagnetic radiation. The oven is designed to contain this inside the cooking cavity. If the door seal is damaged, radiation can leak out.
Is Microwave Leakage Dangerous?
At normal levels, small leaks are unlikely to cause harm. However, a microwave with a damaged door seal could produce higher leakage levels. Regular testing provides peace of mind.
How Is It Tested?
A microwave leakage detector is held near the door seal while the microwave runs. If the reading is below the safe threshold, the microwave passes.
Is This Part of a Standard PAT Test?
Microwave leakage testing is not part of the standard PAT test. However, we can include it as an add-on during your visit.
